Get your taxes done using TurboTax
I found the issue for me, this may help others. My daughter was imported as a dependent from 2016 tax season. I checked myself as caring for her more than half the year, AS I DID. Because of this, she also checked the box saying someone else can claim me as a dependent. When I logged back in,I deleted her as a dependent (as turbotax suggested as a solution) and added her back in. I answered all the questions as I did before, however I noticed an additional question that I did not see before. It asked if she made more than $4060 (I can't remember the exact amount but it was 4 thousand something). I answered yes and turbotax rejected her as a dependent simply because she made more that the maximum amount of money in her part time job. which took an exemption away and raised the amount of taxes I owed by about $600 (argh!!!). My guess is that because she was imported from the previous year, she was already in there as a dependent but when I submitted my taxes, IRS kicked it back because she's already filed and they automatically checked her SSN to see that she made more than the maximum. So mine was rejected. I just resubmitted online with her as a "nondependent" and hopefully it will go through.
