can you please clarify the answer? 

 

if you were a resident of two states, i thought you are to fill out the state you left first as a non-resident or part year resident (depending on  how that state works).

 

then I thought you fill out the state you are living in as a resident; there should be a credit for the tax paid to the first state, ensuring you don't pay taxes on the same dollar twice.   Normally you'd input the entire years' earning for both states but then the credit ensures no double taxation. 

 

turbo tax is going to ask what date you moved / changed residences and it will figure it all out. 

 

Again, each state is a little different but isn't that the basic concept?
