If you are using TurboTax Online, you can start with Deluxe or Plus, then the program will automatically prompt you to upgrade depending upon your answers. That way, you won't have to pay for the most expensive option unless you need it.
The same is true for the desktop version. You can purchase the least expensive program, and it will unlock additional features as you need them. When you file, you will only pay for the upgrade.
The deciding factor is what forms you will need to file your return. TurboTax will not force you to pay for anything more complicated than you need if you start at or near the least expensive version.
