FYI - I used downloaded Turbotax on my desktop.
Federal and State are on two different files (not software).
I had to file individual for federal and join for state hence they need to be in two different files.
I just efiled federal but state had a requirement to do federal FIRST but it wasn't aware of the other file.
Turbotax did not have this requirement last year.
