Get your taxes done using TurboTax
If you need copies of the actual W-2 forms, there are three ways to get them.
- Ask your employer(s) for another copy.
- Get them from the Social Security Administration. There is a fee of $86. See the following link. https://faq.ssa.gov/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=3836
- If you filed your tax return by mail and attached copies of your W-2s, a copy of your return from the IRS will include copies of the W-2s. You have to request a copy of your return by filing Form 4506. It costs $50 for each tax return and takes up to 75 days to get them. See the following link for details. https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc156.html
If you just need the information from your W-2 forms, but not an actual copy, there are two other sources.
- A PDF of your tax return from TurboTax with all forms and worksheets will include a W-2 worksheet for each W-2 that you entered. This will show you what you entered in TurboTax. The accuracy of the information depends on how accurately you entered it.
- You can get a Wage and Income Transcript from the IRS for free. This will contain the information from all the W-2s that were sent to the IRS by your employers. However, it does not include the state and local information (boxes 15 - 20). Go to the following link to get a transcript. You want a Wage and Income Transcript, not a Tax Return Transcript. https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
TurboTax does not have copies of your W-2s. It has only the W-2 information that you entered, as mentioned above.
