Get your taxes done using TurboTax
Normally gambling winnings are reported on form W-2G. You received Form 1099-K because the payments were made electronically. You can enter your gambling or prize winnings reported on a 1099-K in TurboTax by following these steps:
- Click on Federal Taxes > Wages
& Income > I'll choose what I work on
- In the Less Common Income section , click on the Start/Update box next to Gambling Winnings. [Screenshot #1]
- On the Gambling Winnings screen, click the Yes box.
- If you've already entered some gambling winnings, you will see a screen, Form W-2G Summary. Click the blue box, Add Another W-2G. [Screenshot #2]
- Continue through the screens, entering the requested information.
- You will also be able to enter your gambling losses, since gambling losses can be deducted as an itemized deduction up to the total of reported gambling and prize winnings. [Screenshot #3]
If taxes were withheld, enter the withholding using these steps:
- Click on Federal > Deductions & Credits
- Go to the Estimates and Other Taxes Paid section and click on the Start/Update box next to Other Income Taxes.
- On the Other income taxes screen, go to the Other Income Taxes Paid in 2015 section and click on the box next to Withholding not already entered on a W-2 or 1099.
- Enter any withholding and click Continue.
