It may be relevant to know that we bought our principal residence in 1978 and that for some years (while overseas in the foreign service) we rented it out and took depreciation off our rental income. Also that we own another property that has always been rented. And finally that my wife is an independent travel consultant with an "office at home" and income reflected in a 1099-MISC.
