Compare the amount of withholdings this year vs last year. Go to Form 1040 line #64 Federal income tax withheld on both your 2015 and 2016 tax returns. When earnings, deductions, and credits are similar from year to year a decrease in your refund is usually a result of less withholdings from earnings on W-2 forms.
