If you made more than $6,350 the amount you earned over that will be taxable income. So, if you made $8,350, you will have taxable income of $2,000 which will be a tax liability of about $200. So if you paid in $500, you would get $300 back.
If you didn't have any taxes withheld you will not get a refund.
