If you filed last year jointly, then you would have only 1 Pin#, however if you filed separately last year, then each of you would have gotten a pin # to add to the return for security purposes. So when you state FILING JOINTLY, it will prompt you to add both pin' s #.. Hope this helps...
To enter your dependent's IP Pin:
- Open your return in TurboTax, if you don't already have it open.
- In the search box, search for IP PIN or ip pin (2 words) in the search box and then click the "Jump to" link in the search results.
- TurboTax will take you to the Identity Protection PIN screen. Answering Yes will open a field where you can enter your 6-digit IP PIN.
Alternate Instructions:
- Click the Federal Taxes tab
- Then click the Other Tax Situations tab
- Scroll down to the Other Return Info section
- Click Start next to Identity Protection PIN
- Select Yes to the question Did you or any of your dependents get an IP PIN from the IRS for this year's taxes? and then click Continue.
