I just had the same situation happen. They updated the database on Nov. 8th, 2018 (which was just shy of my name update with the SSA). Filing under your old name won't matter because if you already got your w2 changed, then your old name won't match your w2. So right there we're both in the same boat. I called numerous times. They basically said that they would put a note in to check for a name change. Then it takes 6-8 weeks to file your return. They said not to re-file or make an appointment at AN iRS office to prove my identity. I guess my copies of my birth certificate, as card, Drivers License and court order are not goog enough for them to check out. So basically, they're gonna take their sweet time contacting the SS Admin. Then if they're still not satisfied, she said they would contact me and may ask me to mail them documentation.
