My employer made a mistake on my W2 and says that it will take 4-6 weeks to get a corrected W2. Does the IRS have rules stating how long this should take?

My employer made a mistake on my W2 and says that it will take 4-6 weeks to correct. This seems like a long time and this will put us past the filing deadline.
