Get your taxes done using TurboTax

You enter the information for the repayment of overpaid unemployment benefits by following the steps below (I have also attached two screen shots for your use)

If you had to repay an amount that you included in your income in an earlier year, you may be able to deduct the amount repaid from your income for 2015. Or, if the amount you repaid is more than $3,000, you may be able to take a credit against your tax for the year in which you repaid it.

  1. Go to Federal Taxes
  2. Select Wages and Income
  3. Select I'll choose what I work on if the option is given
  4. Scroll to the heading Unemployment
  5. Select Start next to Unemployment and Paid Family Leave
  6. On the next screen, select No on the screen titled "Did you receive unemployment or paid family leave benefits on a 1099-G in 2015?" (see screen shot attached)
  7. Then on the screen titled "Other Uncommon Employment Benefits" select No to the question "Do any of these other uncommon unemployment benefits apply in 2015?" (see screen shot attached)
  8. The next screen will allow you to start entering the information regarding the repayment.
