You cannot file your tax return until you get your W-2. There is information you need on the W-2 that is not on your paycheck. Also, the amounts on your W-2 may be different from what is on your paycheck.
Your employer has until January 31 to send your W-2 to you. The IRS will not start accepting tax returns until January 23.
