Your mother can claim you as a dependent if you are under 19 at the end of 2016 (or under 24 and a full-time student) and she provided more than half than half of your support.
If you are 19 or over (or 24 or over and a full-time student), your gross income has be lower than $4,050.
You can file your own tax return. It would not affect her at all but you have to indicate on your tax return that Someone else is claiming you as a dependent.
