Nope. The amount never went away. I lost my bars and my tax topic early on, but the amount was always there. My tax topic never came back either, as others have said happened to them. Mine went from "still processing" with nothing but the amount on the left side of the screen, to being completely updated with the old amount and the new amount, all my bars and some other messages.
