Get your taxes done using TurboTax
Attempting to file under two accounts is not an issue. If, or when, the second account tried to e-file, you would receive a notice indicating that the return has been "rejected." The reason the IRS would e-file reject such a return, is that, from their point of view, one tax return had already been filed using that same set of Social Security Numbers . . . and for both legal and fraud protection reasons, it won't allow another return through the system for that tax year. Of course, if necessary, a taxpayer can later "amend" their own original return to fix mistakes, but that's a separate issue.
If you're not sure that your first attempt at e-filing went through the system correctly, we would respectfully suggest waiting up to 48 hours to see if you receive electronic confirmation that your tax filing was accepted. If you don't, then you can go back into your preferred online account and submit your tax return again (very carefully this time). The worst thing that could possibly happen is that you'd receive an IRS e-file rejection notice, indicating that a current year return has already been filed with your SSNs. And that's not any bad thing, because this set of circumstances should assure you that the first filing with through.
As for monitoring the ongoing status of your return in processing, you can follow your return (in broad measure, anyway), by going to the IRS's "Where's My Refund" page here:
