If you didn't have health coverage during the year, the TurboTax program will assist you in checking to see if you had a situation that qualifies for the Health Care Exemption. Once you reach the Health Insurance section simply answer the questions, and we’ll let you know if you or anyone else on your taxes are eligible for an exemption from the penalty. We’ll also tell you what you need to do next.
Here's how to get to Health Insurance in TurboTax Online:
- Open your return in TurboTax. (To do this, sign in to TurboTax, and select the Take me to my return button.)

Select Federal in the left side panel..
- Next select Health Insurance at the top of the screen.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to answer the questions and we'll check to see if you are eligible for an exemption.
