Father died in 2017. While living in New York, many years ago, he worked for life insurance company.
My father and mother lived in New York. My father worked for a life insurance company. The company gave him stock during a demutualization in the year 2000.
They moved to Washington state, a community property state. My father died in 2017. My mother had the stock reissued in her name only so that she could sell it., which took place in 2018. I know the price on that date and of course the sales amount but what is the basis, and how do I determine it. I don't know how the stock had his or their names prior to her changing it to hers only.
