I assume that you and the other parent do not live together. Who did the child live with? If the child did not live with you, you cannot claim dependent care expenses. If the child did not live with you (i.e. you are not the custodial parent as defined in tax law), and you are not claiming him as a dependent, he should not be on your tax return at all.
