I don't think I phrased my second question correctly. I meant to say that my excess scholarship money paid for other expenses outside of education expenses. My total in excess scholarships and summer job money was more than $6200. I used this to pay for things like clothing, my dorm, food, etc. My parents did not pay for more than 50% of these expenses. I would say I paid for 80-90% of them myself.
This is my first time filing taxes because it's the first time I've had a summer job, so this is all very confusing to me. I think my parents may have claimed me as a dependent incorrectly, though, because of this 50% rule. What do you think?
