On Federal Form 941x, what do I select for Part 2 (boxes 4a-c and 5a-d). Do I have to make a selection?
There was a typo on my 2017 Form 941 Line 2 for employee wages, tips, and compensation. The amount is more than what was actually paid to the employees. This did not change the tax liability or amounts withheld since the error was only on Line 2 of form 941. The amounts entered for lines 5a-5d of form 941 were correct.
However, while reviewing form 941x, I don't know what to select for Part 2 (boxes 4a-c and 5a-d). Do I have to make a selection?
There were no reimbursements/adjustments made to employees pay because the tax withheld was correct for their actual wages. Also, all deposited taxes were paid correctly. I am not claiming any credits or refunds. In summary, there are no errors with the amount of tax collected and deposited. (NOTE: when I fill out Part 3 on form 941x, only Line 6 has values with a negative value in column 3. Everything else is unchanged. It was simply an unnoticed typographical error that overreported employee compensation.)
Also, do I check box 22 of Part 4 on form 941x since I didn’t have BOTH underreporting or overreporting amounts to be corrected?
Thank you. I truly appreciate your professional help.
