Get your taxes done using TurboTax
Thanks. You are right, that the 1099-R is "withholding" -- I never called it "estimated". There was data in Box 4 of the 1099-R, which I put into TurboTax, exactly as they requested. I put my estimated taxes only in the estimated tax data entry area of TurboTax. I beg to differ, though, that TurboTax may not have double counted, as I did not enter the data twice, TurboTax indicated the correct total taxes paid throughout the data entry process, and the withholding appeared in both lines 64 and 65 of my 1040 once TurboTax finished the 1040. I do seem to recall that there was a warning to not enter taxes paid or withheld in another data entry point, which I did follow. What bothers me is that I only put the four estimated taxes in the estimated taxes area, and only put the withheld taxes in the 1099-R data entry point. I fortunately paid quite a bit more than needed in my estimated taxes, so there won't be a penalty. I'm just trying to figure out how I might have done something wrong. Again, thanks for your thoughts!
