Get your taxes done using TurboTax

If you are married you can only file joint or separate, you cannot file single.

Since there are so many variations in every ones situation, it is not possible to guess which works best for your individual situation. The best way to determine what the best filing option is for you is to create a second account and do a mock return both ways. Three returns in all.  One for married filing joint and then a separate return for each of you, then compare the numbers to see which option produces the best results.

Filing separately does eliminate a few credits, however, many people still find they make out better with separate returns.
