Get your taxes done using TurboTax
You do not need to 1099 from either Uber or Lyft to report your self-employment income. See the image below. Your earnings from driving is reported under ''Other self-employed income'' in TurboTax. You will need TurboTax Self-Employed to report this income and related vehicle expenses. You can use this version for free if you use the link provided on your Uber Dashboard.
To get the Uber partner offer, you need to use this link - https://www.uber.com/drive/tax-information/turbotax-partnership/ Scroll down to 'TurboTax special offers' and click on the ''Access Offers'' link. You will be taken to your Uber dashboard and can use their link to claim the following offer:
'''''File your state and federal taxes for free with TurboTax Self-Employed, the online tax service for independent contractors, freelancers, and business owners'''''.

You may be able to import your documents from your Uber account. However, if you can't, the income can be easily manually entered. In 2018, Uber drivers may receive the following tax documents from Uber for the 2017 tax year:
- 1099-MISC: The official IRS tax document that only applies to drivers/deliverers who received more than $600 in annual cash payments.
- 1099-K: The official IRS tax document that will be sent to drivers who made more than $20,000 in annual payments or provided at least 200 rides and/or deliveries for passengers or deliveries.
- Tax Summary: The unofficial document from Uber, which provides a breakdown of your annual earnings and all of your business-related expenses that may be deductible, including your online miles driven.
If you didn’t receive a 1099 from Uber/Lyft this year, it may mean that you made less than $20,000 gross and less than 200 trips.
Due to the lack of a Form 1099 from Uber, TurboTax won’t be able to import your income automatically.Instead, you’ll want to manually enter your income from Uber’s Tax Summary, by following these steps:
- Sign in to your return and select Take me to my return.
- Select Federal in the navigation panel on the left.
- Select Income & Expenses from the top.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to enter your business income and expenses and select Edit/Add.
- When you see the screen “Let’s get income for…”
- Select 1099-MISC to enter any 1099-MISC you received from Uber or
- Select Additional income/Other self-employed income for your Trip Earnings and Continue.
- Enter the Type of Income; such as Trip earnings and the amount and Continue.
After you enter all of your income information, you will be able to enter your deductions. Just follow the onscreen instructions and we'll help you check for all your tax breaks.
