Get your taxes done using TurboTax

To enter the NR4, treat it as if it is a SSA-1099 and enter it in the Retirement Plans and Social Security section, under ‘Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099)’.

·         Search (upper right of program) 'ssa-1099' and click the 'Jump to' link from results

·         Answer Yes to Did you receive any Social Security benefits?

·         Check the box for Social Security benefits (Form SSA-1099) and enter the amounts from NR-4

·         Next, select Federal (left navigation panel) then select Deductions & Credits (top of program)

·         Scroll down the page to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid and select Foreign Taxes to enter any foreign tax you already paid to Canada on that income.

·         Enter the amounts on your NR4 converted to U.S. dollars as of the transaction date. Please click this link for historical conversion rates:  Treasury Reporting Rates of Exchange
