No. If you were a regular employee and get a W-2 for the income you earned, and you had no other income, you do not have to file a tax return if you made less than $6300.
But the tax system isn't that simple.
If there is an amount in box 2 of the W-2, you are allowed to file to get that back.
But if you "worked" for a company or person that doesn't issue W-2s, you do have to file as that income is considered self employment and you will have to pay social security & medicare tax
