All desktop products (CD/download) allow for 5 Federal returns to be efiled (IRS rules). If you have more returns than that, they have to be printed and mailed.
Basic Edition does not include a state program and cannot import from ItsDeductible. A state return can be added to Basic Edition, but the extra price for that would be an additional 39.99 (44.99 later in filing season.) So if you need a state return, it's cheaper to go with the Deluxe version that includes a state program.
If you need a state program, then Deluxe comes in 2 versions--one that is Federal and State combo, and one that is Federal-only. If purchased from TurboTax, it is the combo Fed and State version. If purchased elsewhere, you have to be careful which version of Deluxe you are buying.
Premier and Home and Business both include a state program.
There is a 19.99 fee to efile a state return (24.99 later in filing season). There is no fee for a New York state return, and no fee to print and mail state returns.
