I dont understand why I get a refund as a head of household and it seems like I don't pay any taxes

Hi, I have a question regarding a refund of an individual with head of household filing status. I have one child 15 years old. With income of 35000, my standard deduction is 18,000. Therefore, my taxable income is 15000. Now, comes the part that I don't understand. For non-refundable credit I get child tax credit and it looks like it eliminates the taxes I suppose to pay on those 15,000. I also get EIC and Additional child credit. In summary refundable credit comes to over 2 thousands. Total refund is over 4 thousand. I would really like to know why I am basically not paying any tax on those 15000. Or is that a mistake of my calculated tax return?
