the rejection is likely referring to the IRS Identity Protection PIN which is 6 digits. The 5-digit PIN you assign for e-file is something you choose, it doesn't have to match anything.
it'll probably reject again from what you're describing. to get your 6-digit IP PIN go to your account at irs.gov. You enter it in Turbotax under Other Tax Situations / Other Return Info. IRS issues a new PIN every calendar year for any filing activity regardless of tax year.
