Do I need to file a non-resident state return for Wisconsin if I received a 1099-MISC for a conference that I was paid to guest lecture at?
I live in New York State, but flew to Wisconsin for 2 days to attend the conference and was paid $1000 to lecture. I am finding conflicting information about whether or not I need to file a state return for Wisconsin. On here I see it says I must file a nonresident Wisconsin state return if I made over $600 in Wisconsin income (which I did, being that I made $1000), but then on the Department of Revenue website for Wisconsin, it states "If you are a nonresident or part-year
resident of Wisconsin and your Wisconsin gross income (or the combined
gross income of you and your spouse) is $2,000 or more, you must file a
Form 1NPR,
Nonresident and Part-Year Resident Income Tax Return." Please help!
