Get your taxes done using TurboTax
As I mentioned last year, if this issue didn't get attention, I was dumping Turbotax this year.
Like someone else here, I also switched to FreeTaxUSA.com. If you're used to Turbotax, it feels familiar, and you can import a pdf of last year's taxes to get started. The software is free and handles simple filings as well as small business, freelancers, contractors, rental income, investments, etc., without having to pay any "upgrade taxes" for any of that. Fed e-filings are also free and state e-filings are $15.99. There's no charge for state support. You can also pay for things like tax pro support and audit defense, but I didn't.
I prepared and filed both my mother's taxes and mine (which includes my small business income and expenses). Two very different use cases --and it was a great experience each time. If you print/save a pdf of your completed Turbotax taxes this year, you can import them as a starting point next year. I highly recommend that approach, especially if you find yourself visiting this thread.
I paid $0 for the software, $0 to e-file (NH has no state income tax), and got a refund. It doesn't get much better than that.
