I am reporting a parsing bug with the W-2 import tool in TurboTax Online. When I uploaded my W-2, the system skipped Box 12 Code DD and incorrectly assigned the Code DD amount to Box 12 Code W.
For example, on my actual W-2:
- Box 12 Code DD (Employer health coverage) was $12K
- Box 12 Code W (HSA contribution) was $4K
However, TurboTax imported this as:
- Box 12 Code W: $1K
- Code DD: Missing entirely
This is a critical error. Because it swapped the employer health coverage cost into the HSA contribution box, it made it appear as though I massively overcontributed to my HSA. If I hadn't caught this manually, it could have resulted in incorrect tax calculations and penalties. Once I corrected, my refund grew significantly. I would have lost a lot of money.
I manually corrected the entries to proceed with my return, but the development team should look into this OCR bug to prevent it from affecting other users.
