Get your taxes done using TurboTax

No - You are not being taxed twice on ;the 1099-MISC income.   You will see the income on line 12 and line 22 of Schedule 1.  It flows here from the Schedule C.

The Schedule C is created because you indicated in the interview that the work you did involved work like your main job.  This way you could deduct expenses incurred when you generated the income.

If you don't have expenses to deduct from this income, you can enter the income in TurboTax as Other Common Income, which is reported on line 21 of the 1040 Schedule 1 and  will not generate Schedule C or SE tax.  Please use the following steps:

  1. Click on Federal > Wages & Income.
  2. Scroll down to the1099-MISC and Other Common Income section.
  3. Click on the Start/Revisit box next to Income from 1099-MISC
  4. On the 1099-MISC Summary, click Edit next to the 1099-MISC you entered.
  5. On the screen, Does one of these uncommon situations apply, mark the radio button next to None of these apply.  Click Continue.
  6. On the screens that follow, answer the following questions:

    • Did it involve work that's like your main job? No.
    • You got it in 2018
    • No, it didn't involve an intent to earn money

      7.  Continue through the rest of the interview screens.

The income will appear on line 21 of Schedule 1 of Form 1040 (Other Income).
