Please explain more about what you mean by "this ID verification thing." That term can mean more than one thing. Is one of the following your situation?
- Did you receive an IRS letter with a 14-digit code asking you to ID Verify at the IRS website before they will process your return?
- Or are you referring to the 6-digit email verification code that some people need when efiling their returns, and are you not receiving the code in your email?
- If neither of those is your situation, then please explain more.
We can tell you more about what steps to take once we know for sure what you are asking about. Since you said you cannot file your return, I suspect it may be the 6-digit email verification code, but that would just be a guess until we learn more. But that is a different process than "ID verification", so that's why I'm confused. We can tell you the steps to get your 6-digit email verification code if you are not receiving it in your email.
