Get your taxes done using TurboTax
Form 8962 (Premium Tax Credit) is a federal-only form. California uses "FTB 3849" (Premium Assistance Subsidy) for its state-specific health insurance reconciliation (this form is generated using the information from your Form 3895, which is the state-level version of the 1095-A that Covered California sends out).
- Open or continue your return.
- Click the Forms Mode icon (top right corner... only in TurboTax Desktop).
- Look for the list of California forms (left hand column), by scrolling down to see if orm 3849 is listed.
- Click on it to View/Edit (if it’s not there, you haven't triggered the interview questions for it yet and follow the directions below).
- Finish your Federal return first, and make sure you entered your 1095-A in the Federal "Deductions & Credits" section under Medical sectuion, and then Affordable Care Act.
- Make sure the program has updated the State module ("Online" menu (top), and Click on "Check for Updates")
- Click on State Taxes tab and then Start/Continue (next to California interview).
- Look "Health Insurance Marketplace Statement (3895)" or a question asking if you were "Enrolled in Covered California."
Note: Even after you enter the 1095-A on the federal side, California requires you to confirm the Form 3895 data to generate Form 3849.
