During the import of my 1099 investment sales transactions, those investments with "S&P" in the name had the name replaced by the letter "P". Why isn't the "&" allowed?

! Avoid using symbols like ', ", &, <, and >.
Example: 20 shares of XYZ company.
Is the above limitation/restriction clearly communicated to the financial businesses that produce the 1099 sales transactions?
