We are 69 & 71 yet our deduction is coming up 34,700 - this does not seem correct.
Taxpayers who are 65 years or older or blind can claim an additional standard deduction. For 2025, this additional amount is:
$2,000 for single filers or heads of household
$1,600 for each spouse in a married couple filing jointly
Moreover, under the new tax law, seniors may also qualify for a temporary bonus deduction of up to $6,000 per person, which can be added to the standard deduction
