Get your taxes done using TurboTax

As a backup plan, I entered all my return info into FreeTaxUSA.   (Firstly -- that product is MUCH more polished than TurboTax and I am considering a switch going forward.   I encourage all to check it out).

For those of you like me who don't qualify for any Education credits, but just want to fully offset your 529 distributions...   FreeTaxUSA actually states right in the interview that if your 529 distribution is used entirely for qualified expenses, THERE IS NO NEED TO ENTER IT AT ALL on your taxes.   That includes both the 1099-Q and the 1098-T.   They literally ask a couple questions and then they skip it entirely.

As research on the above, I reviewed my 2024 and prior year returns, and sure enough, ZERO reference to any education plans, no mention of 1098-T, no mention of 1099-Q...   it's all entered into TurboTax with no impact on your return (again, if you are like me and 100% of your distribution is for qualified expenses).

Bottom line:   if you are in this situation AND TurboTax doesn't fix this issue with the 2025 product...  just don't enter these forms.   It will make no difference either way.
