To file a return for a deceased spouse, you must first update the Personal Info section. You will indicate that the spouse is deceased, and then enter the date of death.
To file the return:
- If E-filing a joint return, you are the surviving spouse,
- You can sign electronically;
- If filing a paper return,
- Sign your name and write
- Filing as surviving spouse in the spouse's signature area.
