Following up. I did call support and they confirmed that there was an account linked to my previous purchases (since 1998) but that it was marked inactive because of an unknown 'security' issue. They suggested I contact security by email which I did on January 12. I asked them to reactivate my previous account and delete the new one I created with the same email. No answer from them yet.
