Get your taxes done using TurboTax
Desktop tax prep is a legacy business for Intuit, it's now less than 1% of their total $20bn revenue in decline 5% annually. That's $200mil revenue for 4mil users, which is not nothing, but their Online/Live business has revenue $4bn for 35mil returns growing 8-10% annually, which is where they are clearly focused. For 2025 tax year they are cutting Win 10 even with ESU, ItsDeductible (100k users), Basic Desktop edition. Also offering desktop users to try Online Premier for no extra cost. Based on their earnings statement this year, Intuit is clearly comfortable yielding share for what they call "low average revenue per return" users (i.e. desktop plus some online usage), as long as the higher revenue stuff is growing. The rest of us cling to desktop year by year as long as far as it goes. I can't speak for Intuit's product roadmap, but the direction is clear and there's probably zero chance at this point that Intuit would consider expanding desktop into a linux version.
