- Your daughter’s income is generally reported on her own tax return, even if she is under 18. However, if her income is only from interest and dividends and she is under 19 (or under 24 and a full-time student), you may elect to report that income on your return using Form 8814.
- You can claim your daughter as a dependent if she is under 24 and a full-time post-secondary student, provided she meets other dependency criteria (such as residency and support tests).
- Lastly, if your daughter qualifies as your dependent, she must indicate on her tax return that she is being claimed as a dependent by someone else when filing.
