and if you don't have many sales entries with adjustments (wash sales, AMD, non-covered sales etc) you can enter those on a 1099 as "one by one" with the details, input the balance of your 1099-B as a sales summary, and no mailing 8453 to the IRS should be needed. I input all my 1099s, it doesn't take long - probably quicker than calling Schwab.
