I don't know whether or not TurboTax can generate the statement you need and e-file the return, but I am almost certain that the program can generate a statement.
Your outlined procedure would be fine since this is IRD (income in respect of a decedent) and belongs on the return of the person or entity (i.e., trust or estate) that received the income.
