How does lack of medical insurance affect my taxes?
Please advise if/how not having medical insurance for a few weeks would affect my taxes.
Context
- I live in California and had 2 jobs - one if them is non-IHSS and 2nd one is as IHSS provider.
- I have been getting my medical benefits through my 1st job (non-IHSS) one.
- I lost my 1st job (non-IHSS) one and those medical benefits will end by end of July.
- So I am trying to apply for medical insurance through IHSS now. I just noticed that it would take 6 weeks for IHSS to approve and for it to be active.
- I noticed a question on the IHSS medical form if I am covered through any other medical insurance. So I guess I will have to wait to apply until August 1st when I won't have any other medical coverage.
- So I may not have medical coverage for the 6 weeks I wait for IHSS to approve.
- I noticed a tax form which asks if I have not have had medical coverage for any period of time.
Question:
Will I have to pay any penalties or will it affect my taxes during the time I won't have medical coverage while waiting for IHSS to approve my medical insurance?
Thanks a lot in advance for your advice.
