I called Health Equity again today, the rep told me no corrected 1099 SA will be issued, that the excess contribution removal will be reflected in the 1099 SA to be issued in January 2026.
I need to amend my 2024 tax returns (both Federal and North Carolina) to show that I removed the excess contribution within the 2024 tax year. North Carolinians have until 9/15/2025 to file Federal and state tax returns due to the tremendous damages caused by hurricane Helene in September 2024.
How do I file an amended tax return? Can I create a dummy 1099-SA to show the excess contribution removal as distribution code 2? This means that I will have 2 (two) 1099 SA: one from January 2025 that shows the $3,830 distribution in 2024 for medical expenses, and the 2nd 1099 SA that I will create to show the excess contribution removal as distribution code 2?
Do I disregard the 1099 SA when Health Equity sends me the 1099 SA in January 2026 since I would have already included the excess removal in 2024 form 1040X?
I am using the Turbotax Deluxe for Windows version on my desktop.
