I have no idea where form 8879 is coming from. I am using Turbo Tax to prepare my taxes, which after over 20 year of use this experience is starting to make me wonder if that is a good idea.
If you look at the post it starts with a statement I made saying I was double checking, then I post a link to the IRS website, which is titled "File an amended return" and on that page the statement is made.
I did a google search and that was the first seemingly related page I saw.
If you want to post a link to the IRS website for the 1040X instructions which it seems you are referring to I can look at that as well.
