Get your taxes done using TurboTax
This answer was very helpful. Thank you so much!!! Unfortunately searching that specific topic didn't bring anything up, but after digging I did find the article mentioned. Try searching for this "IR-2024-294, Nov. 21, 2024". For those (parents) who have dependents (adulting kiddos) who forgot to mark they are a dependent on someone else's return, who then (said parents) had their returns rejected when they claimed their dependents, you CAN refile e-file per the IRS (just starting for the 2024-2025 filing season, not previous years) and don't have to refile via a paper return. But as mentioned in above post you MUST go to IRS.gov and sign up for an account and get an IP PIN number and re-E-file using that pin (that took me maybe 30 minutes). IRS says they will accept the return. They say they will not accept any e-filed returns at all without the valid IP PIN. It doesn't matter how long you wait. I tried refiling several times and was rejected each time. Once I got the IP PIN, it was accepted.
