That's correct. This is mainly a user community forum that works like a bulletin board. It doesn't use any incoming email. So if you tried to send a message back from a forum notification email, no telling where it went.
I don't know how the IRS came to expect an IP PIN from you, but we see that happen from time to time. However, now that you are in the IP PIN program, they will expect you to get and use a new one every year. Some people who voluntarily got one can "opt out" of the program in future years (if they see that option in their IRS account.) But it's a good idea to stay in the IP PIN program. It's good protection to use every year to help keep someone from using your identity to file a return.
